The Innosat project is based on the Ital-GovSatCom Program (the Italian contribution to the European initiative called GovSatCom), which has as its final goal the development, launch and operation of an innovative geostationary satellite for secure government telecommunications.
Ital-GovSatCom is the first contract within the Space Economy Strategic Plan which provides for private and institutional participation, defined in a collaboration agreement signed between MISE and the Italian Space Agency, and by a Memorandum of Understanding signed by MISE and by 12 Regions (Abruzzo, Basilicata, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Lombardy, Piedmont, Puglia, Sardinia, Tuscany, Umbria, Valle D'Aosta) and the Autonomous Province of Trento, to promote the development and competitiveness of the Italian space system and guarantee the rendering of innovative services for institutions and for the commercial market.
The innovative satellite system will develop services in various fields of application, such as civil protection, security, defense, humanitarian aid, telemedicine, maritime surveillance.
The project proposal "Innosat - Innovative elements for subsystems of satellite platforms for institutional telecommunications" is divided into a single Research and Development Project and covers the following topics:
