Earth Observation supporting Sustainable Development Goals

Earth Observation supporting Sustainable Development Goals

Earth Observation is a powerful tool to support SDGs (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals) action plans and reporting.

In September 2015, the UN General Assembly ratified the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, that aims to end poverty, promote prosperity and people’s well-being while protecting the environment. The core of the 2030 agenda is the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and their 169 associated targets. The SDGs are designed to balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.

Earth Observation is a widespread and sound instrument to support the reporting on Sustainable Development Goals and indicators and the provision of relevant information to effectively monitor progress towards the SDG targets, and the degree of compliance with the International Agreements.

In this book, EARSC (European Association of Remote Sensing Companies) has collected European-wide success stories of using geoinformation products and services to support the achievement of the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Among the stories, some realized by Planetek in the various fields of action.
