Rheticus services awarded as "Application of the Year 2016"


Rheticus®, the application developed by Planetek Italia, has been awarded as the "Application of the Year 2016" by the OpenGeoData Italy association.

The OpenGeoData Italia Association every year assigns awards to institutions that have proven most virtuous in following the OpenData model, to the best applications developed by reusing open geographic data, and the most active community of users.

This year, in the category "Applications", OpenGeoData Italy has decided to award with "OpenGeoData Application 2016" the company Planetek Italia, with the following motivation: "For having created and published the Rheticus® service, which integrates free satellite images, as the Sentinel data, cartographic and ancillary databases, in open data mode. In particular, the award was assigned for the first active service aimed at monitoring the Earth surface movements related to landslides or subsidence, and at monitoring the stability of buildings and infrastructure, such as roads, railways, pipelines and engineering works.". The award highlights also the business model chosen for such services which also uses open data.

Other awards were assigned this year to Regione Basilicata, as "OpenGeoData Region 2016 ", and to the community Open Data Sicilia, as "Active Users OpenGeoData 2016".
