Planetek Italia operates in many fields of application ranging from environmental and land monitoring to open-government and smart cities, including defense and security as well as scientific missions and planetary exploration.

We provide solutions and products for Earth observation with satellite, aircraft and drone data. We develop on-board software for satellites and data processing solutions for ground segment infrastructures. Our involvement in research and development activities supports human exploration of the solar system. We develop Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) in compliance with INSPIRE as well as solutions for Smart City and complex systems to support decisions that exploit geographic information, and Earth observation data, according to the new paradigms of Cloud and Software As a Service.

Specifically in the Space field, the target market consists of space agencies (e.g. the Italian Space Agency and the European Space Agency with their scientific and operational programs) and those related (such as Galileo) and the major players in the aerospace market.

Planetek develops and integrates hardware and software infrastructures for the acquisition, processing and distribution of remote sensing data along their entire chain of production: from Earth Observation to Deep Space; from the Space Segment to the Ground Segment and the User Segment. Our main responsibilities fall into Systems and Software Engineering with strong verticalization towards Space Mission Analysis and Design (SMAD).

WHAT WILL I DO AS A “Web Back-end Python Developer” AT PLANETEK ITALIA?

As a Web Back-end Python Developer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the server-side components of our web applications. You will work closely with the frontend team to ensure seamless integration between the frontend and backend systems.

You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in the space industry. You will play a critical role in developing software solutions and applications that support space missions, satellite systems, and data analysis in the space domain.

Responsibilities:

• Develop server-side applications using Python and web frameworks such as Django or FastAPI.
• Design and implement database models and manage database systems, preferably using PostgreSQL.
• Configure and manage proxy servers like Traefik or Nginx to optimize web application performance and security.
• Integrate with external APIs to enable data exchange and third-party service integration.
• Implement caching strategies and performance optimizations to enhance the efficiency of the web applications.
• Implement security measures and authentication mechanisms to protect the web applications from unauthorized access.
• Perform testing and debugging to ensure the quality and stability of the backend code.
• Collaborate with the frontend team to understand and integrate frontend technologies effectively.
• Utilize dependency management and packaging tools like Poetry to manage project dependencies.
• Fluent in English and Italian to effectively communicate and collaborate with international teams.

Additional Skills (Appreciated):

• Experience with workflow management and data integration tools such as NiFi and Airflow.
• Familiarity with message distribution systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ for building event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases like MongoDB and ElasticSearch for handling unstructured data.
• Proficient in using configuration management systems like Git for version control.
• Understanding of deployment and DevOps practices to ensure smooth deployment and operation of web applications.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices, including iterative development and continuous integration.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of cloud computing services, preferably AWS, for deploying and managing web applications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Backend Python Developer.
• In-depth knowledge of Python and web frameworks such as Django or FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of RDBMS, preferably PostgreSQL, and proficiency in SQL.
• Familiarity with proxy servers, API integration, caching, and performance optimization techniques.
• Sound knowledge of security and authentication best practices in web application development.
• Proficiency in testing and debugging methodologies for ensuring code quality.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies and the ability to collaborate effectively with frontend developers.
• Experience with dependency management and packaging tools like Poetry.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Italian.
