From 5 to 7 June 2020 Planetek Italia has organized the Copernicus Hackathon - Bari 2020: a 3-day non-stop event where developers, web interface and mobile app designers, but also young innovators passionate about data analysis will meet to create innovative mobile applications based on Copernicus data and services.
The Copernicus programme, funded and coordinated by the European Commission, collects satellite images from different sources, including in-situ sensors, processes them and distributes reliable and always updated information, as free Open Data, in six thematic areas: land, sea, atmosphere, climate change, emergency management and security.
The event was organized with the local support of The Hub and associazione onData, and in cooperation with AIRBUS, Distretto Tecnologico Aerospaziale pugliese (DTA), CreoDIAS and GEO-University.
The winners of the hackathon have been awarded with 2000 Euros and access to the Copernicus Accelerator, a one year coaching program for innovative start-ups who want to do business with Copernicus data and services. In addition, there are additional prizes that consist of in-depth consultancy for the business ideas and a special prize for diversity and inclusion offered by the Apulian Aerospace District / Nereus and CordiNet.
Training for participants
Hackathon participants had the opportunity to attend several pre-event training resources: a rich calendar of free training webinars on the use of Copernicus satellite data and services and sessions dedicated to knowledge of the Space Economy market, such as the Business in Orbita webinars. Furthermore, business and commercial development opportunities have been dedicated to the best projects resulting from the event.
