Fire Severity Maps from PRISMA hyperspectral data


PRISMA hyperspectral data have been used to extract Fire Severity Maps. Image: map of California fires.

The prototypal processor “Fire Severity Map” was developed in the framework of the ASI-funded project “Sviluppo di Prodotti Iperspettrali Prototipali Evoluti”. It is one of L3/L4 value added products to be retrieved by means of processing PRISMA hyperspectral data.

The image shows a RGB representation of a PRISMA data (left) collected in California (USA), precisely in the counties of Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Yolo and Solano. The image shows a fire accident, called Hennessey, started on August 17th, 2020 and reported contained on September 16th, 2020, as reported by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection - Fire and Resource Assessment Program of the State of California (USA).

On the right, it is reported the classification of the burnt area based on the severity of the environmental changes caused by the fire.
