Planetek supporta Touching the Sky progetto educativo internazionale dell’Istituto Ciampini-Boccardo
Planetek Italia has joined the educational project “Touching the Sky”, promoted by IIS “Ciampini-Boccardo” in Novi Ligure, by providing free training on Earth Observation from satellite. As part of its commitment as a Benefit Company, Planetek has made its resources and expertise available to enrich the school’s educational programme.
On Wednesday 29 April, the workshop “Observing Earth from Space: Satellites, Data and Real-World Applications” took place, during which students explored the value of satellite data and space technologies in real-world applications. The learning pathway will continue through Planetek Italia’s EO-Learning platform, enabling students to pursue their training independently.
Conceived by Professor Corrado Campisi, Touching the Sky is much more than an educational project: it is an experience that brings together science, inclusion and social commitment. Alongside STEM activities – such as the design and launch of a stratospheric balloon – the initiative promotes intercultural dialogue and the right to education, building a bridge between Italian and British students and Afghan girls currently excluded from the formal education system.
Indeed, Touching the Sky is carried out in collaboration with Wallace High School in Stirling, Scotland, and with Learn Afghanistan, a network of secret schools and digital learning delivered via radio and apps, which provides learning opportunities to girls who are currently unable to attend school in their own country. Through shared STEM pathways, opportunities for exchange and collaborative activities, participants can continue to develop scientific skills and sustain their educational journeys, transforming technology into a tool for connection and inclusion.
The stratospheric mission also takes on a strong symbolic value: alongside sensors and scientific instruments, it will carry messages, stories and testimonies from the students involved, giving a voice to those who risk remaining unheard. The project also includes the creation of a narrative podcast to share not only the technical aspects, but also the human and cultural journey behind the experience.
