The E-Geo projecte-Geo is the first and most comprehensive on-line research engine of italian Geo-thematic maps.
e-Geo aims at distributing at italian and international level the italian Geo-thematic maps, one of the most antique and prestigious. e-Geo is a non-profit project of the University of Siena that aims also at granting conservation of this heritage, promoting geological culture and making maps available to geologist communities. With its activity e.Geo contributes in creating funds for doctorates and researchers on Geo-thematic cartography and geology. -
Satellites: the growth of China and IndiaLast January 12th the panchromatic camera aboard the Indian satellite for Earth Observation Cartosat-2 started its operations confirming expectations. Performances and outcomes has been welcomed with verve by Indian Space Research Association ( http://isro.org/ ), who promotes space programmes since `80. China prepares to launch the second in a series of four oceanic satellites. The HY-1B satellite has been designed and developed by Chinese Academy of Space Technology ( http://www.cast.ac.cn/en/ ) and will be equipped with specific sensor to ocean and coasts monitoring. But China will be soon indipendent also in the positioning system technologies, developping the Beidu system, a new competitor for GLONASS (Russia), GPS (USA) and GALILEO (Europe). The tourist GeoPortal of ApuliaThe webportal "Viaggiare in Puglia" is the new official tourist information channel of Apulia Region, showed at BIT, Italian Tourism Exchange Expo. The webportal gives tourists the opportunity to easily plan its own travel in Apulia, thanks to a friendly tool set to facilitate exploration through guides and cartographic maps. The webportal, furthermore, enables a high detailed geographic search of places and points of interest, through a Web GIS equipped a street map and aerial photos (50cm). The webGIS has been realized by Planetek Italia with the state of the art of its publishing technologies.
