A new High Resolution satellite: OrbView-3After the successful launch of June 26 2003, the OrbView-3 satellite is about to enter the operational phase, where collected image data will be available on the market. OrbView-3 will provide 1-meter resolution panchromatic and 4-meter multispectral images, with a swath width of 8 km. The satellite will revisit each location on Earth in less than 3 days.

The world`s largest image of the worldEarth Resource Mapping has recently completed what most probably is the biggest mosaic of images in the world: the World Geocover Mosaic. It is an RGB combination of bands 7-4-2 of Landsat images provided by EarthSat and NASA with a resolution of 28.5 meters. The image can be viewed with ER Mapper, ER Viewer or any product that allows URL access to ECW files, from the ecwp URL:

Planetek Italia in Verona for ASITA 2003
Planetek Italia will take part in the 7th edition of the Italian National Conference “ASITA”. The company will present three projects during this event: MEDUC, for the control of unauthorized building; SOGHA, for the monitoring of gorilla habitats; BALU, for the monitoring of changes in burned forest areas. The ASITA Conference will also give the opportunity to the participant to find out about Planetek Italia training activities, the new release of ER Mapper and the latest news in the development of Web GIS systems based on Image Web Server and the ECW compression.

Autumn courses, a real successA few places are still available for the GIS and Remote Sensing course that will be held in Rome from 27 to 31 October 2003. The course provides specific competencies in the field of remote sensing and is addressed to people interested in this specific field. In November Planetek Italia is organizing the course on "Earth Observation data and GIS systems for the prevention and the monitoring of forest fires". The courses will be held in the offices of MondoGIS, the prestigious Italian magazine.
