ER Mapper: a special prize for the Geography PartyA special prize indeed was assigned by Planetek Italia during the
Geography Party, that took place in Florence at the beginnings of April.
The educational license of ER Mapper was awarded to the Laboratory of
Geography of the Department of Historical and Geographical Studies of the
University of Florence. The Laboratory works on the historical
reconstruction of the territory and management of the cartography of the
past within GIS systems. One of its most important projects concerns
Global Changes applied to the coastal area, for the analysis of the
transformations on the damps areas of the Tuscan coast. -
Cart@net for the environmentAPAT, the Italian Agency for the Protection of the Environment and
Territory, has chosen the solution developed by Planetek Italia for
cartography distribution via Internet. Cart@net is the system that will
allow the different regional officese to access the same data, thus
guaranteeing sharing of information and immediate access to data via
Internet. Cart@net will be used inside the SinaNET (National Environmental
Information System) and will provide users with color orthophotos, raster
cartography and different vector themes of environmental nature. -
Turn a blind eye to fires with the BALU projectA workshop on the prevention and monitoring of fires will take place on
24th June 2003 at the ESA ESRIN offices in Frascati (Rome). The BALU
project will be illustrated during the event: a service to identify, in
the entire Italian territory, changes in land use in burned forest areas.
The service, in fact, is based on the periodic supply of thematic maps
showing possible changes in land use. Thematic maps have been designed for
use directly inside GIS systems. -
Using ECW images with ArcIMSECW Connector is the plug-in that allows ArcIMS to read images directly of
any size compressed in ECW format. Thanks to this tool, it is possible to
visualize whole mosaics of orthophotos as background in WebGIS
applications based on ESRI’s ArcIMS. In order to manage great raster
dataset, therefore, you will simply need to create a mosaic of orthophotos
with ER Mapper, the images processing software; then save it in ECW format
as a unique image, for publishing on the Web with ArcIMS.
