A new dress for the italian ANPA: now APATFrom "National Agency for the Environmental Protection" to "Agency for the Protection of the Environment and for the Technical Services". The ANPA, together with the Technical Services of the Presidency of the Counsel, with the National Geological Service, the State Idrographic Service, has become APAT. A restyling that has brought to the creation of a big environmental structure with more than 1400 people. The wireless safeguard of the environmentThanks to a new WebGis application, realized from APAT and ARPA Piemonte,
it is possible to make campaigns on the field, always having available on
a palmtop the whole cartography of the area of interest, with on-line
access. The application uses mobile PDA integrated with GPS and connected
to GPRS mobile phones using bluetooth technology. ArcPad is installed on
the palmtop that can visualize the cartography directly loaded on the
palmtop or read it directly from the server that uses ArcIMS integrated
with Image Web Server. The integrated use of ArcIms and Image Web Server
allows to connect to geographical data of any size dimension (also the
whole ortofoto coverage of Lazio region) with performances never reached
up to today. This way the geocoded information, as soon as they are
collected on the field, may immediately be transferred from the palmtop to
the server for the database update. -
