The Earth Hour initiativeNext March 28th, 2009 for the first time in history, public institutions and people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their message to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009, to take concrete actions against global warming. At 8:30 p.m. local time for one hour hopefully a big dark wave running on the Earth surface will be probably observed by satellites.

The Earth Explorer mission GOCELast March 17th, 2009 GOCE, the Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer satellite developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) was launched, starting a a new chapter in the history of Earth observation in Europe. GOCE is the first of a new family of ESA satellites designed to study our planet and its environment in order to enhance our knowledge and understanding of Earth-system processes and their evolution, to enable us to address the challenges of global climate change. In particular, GOCE will measure the minute differences in the Earth’s gravity field around the globe.
